Back From The Summit!

The 4th Canadian Obesity Summit in Toronto was a big hit and led to a few reflections.

First, it was great to be immersed in ‘all things obesity’ for a few days to learn from leaders in the field representing the spectrum of science and policy.

Second, it highlighted emerging areas of research and showcased the work being done across the country (by trainees and faculty alike), the majority of which is of really high quality.

Third, it validated the obesity prevention and management research we’re leading locally; we received a lot of positive feedback from our colleagues for both our oral and poster presentations.

Finally, it was invigorating to get away for awhile and think about the bigger picture of what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. One of the highlights occurred during the opening ceremonies when one woman shared her story of living with obesity for most of her life. Passionate, eloquent, heart-felt…..and human! It was a(nother!) great reminder that the value of our work is our focus on helping children and their families to live the healthiest, happiest lives possible.
