What factors influence attendance in community-based programs?

This past summer, Emily Kelleher (PhD Candidate, Dept of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College Cork) visited our research team from Ireland. I’m happy to share that Emily recently published the first of several papers from her graduate work.

Her systematic review (pdf below), published in Obesity Reviews, examined factors that influence families’ attendance in community-based lifestyle programs for children with obesity.

Emily and her team identified a variety of factors that are involved in families’ decisions to initiate and remain engaged in care over the long-term. Since families will only benefit from care if they see value in and prioritize programs designed for managing obesity, this research is fundamentally important to inform how health care professionals and administrators work to optimize enrollment and retainment in pediatric weight management.

Way to go, Emily!
