Well Done, Ann!

Undergraduate nutrition students at UAlberta who are on track to become registered dietitians are required to complete a research course, which exposes them to research principles and practices, pairing them with mentors to complete research projects. Over the years, more than 20 students have spent time working and learning with our group.

This year, it was a pleasure to work with Ann Zhang. Over the past several months, Ann dedicated a substantial amount of time to categorize all of the physicians and applied health professionals who referred children for weight management in Alberta between 2013 – 2017. With a dataset >5,000 referrers, Ann complemented our existing data with information about clinician type, sub-type, and geographic location. This information was of interest to our colleagues in Alberta Health Services who lead our provincial pediatric obesity initiative, but they were also useful for our ongoing study to examine predictors of enrollment in pediatric weight management, which is one of several studies from Team ABC3, our CIHR Team Grant for Bariatric Care.

Thanks again for all of your time and effort, Ann!
